Among the slopes of Alto Adige, Cantina Kurtatsch interprets mountain viticulture with a collective vision: 190 families, one shared goal, and wines that precisely reflect the character of the territory. Founded in 1900 to protect small local farming estates, Cantina Kurtatsch is today among the oldest cooperatives in Alto Adige.
It brings together 190 families across 190 hectares of cultivated land and produces sixteen varieties of whites and reds that fully reflect the character of their origin. A model that, over time, has consolidated a close bond between winegrowers and winery, fostering product quality and the ability to adapt to the most variable climatic conditions.
“Attention to quality”
In the winery, production is sustainable and the wines reflect their unmistakable provenance, their terroir. The wines of Cortaccia extend, uniquely in Europe, across an altitude ranging from 220 to 900 m above sea level. Here each grape variety finds the best growing conditions.
Having 700m of elevation difference within a single municipality is unique in Europe! The lower areas are among the warmest in Alto Adige and are ideal for red wines. On the heights above the town center, white wines find perfect alpine conditions. For this reason, whites are cultivated at high altitudes – fresh, aromatic and with alpine character – while the lower areas, with clay and limestone soils, are dedicated to reds. The winery’s motto is clear: prioritize quality by cultivating the right grape variety in the right area.
The presence of Bordeaux varieties is a further characteristic of Cantina Kurtatsch’s uniqueness, which has identified the perfect opportunity to enter the red wine market.

CHARDONNAY CALIZ
KURTATSCH CORTACCIA CALIZ Chardonnay 2025. A wine from the premier selection of Cortaccia vineyards. These are the result of low yields, precise and environmentally friendly viticulture, and careful winemaking. The essence of freshness and finesse, SELECTION wines are produced only from grapes that fully meet our quality guidelines.
Kurtatsch Caliz is a 100% Chardonnay with a delicate and intriguing bouquet featuring hints of ripe pineapple, banana, and citron zest.
The name “Caliz” derives from the Latin terms calix (chalice) and calx (limestone). Caliz Chardonnay is grown at 250-400 m a.s.l. exclusively on light gravelly soils with a high limestone-dolomite content.
Vinification
Temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel and partially in large oak barrels. By aging longer on the fine lees, the wine gains complexity and texture. Significant temperature shifts between day and night enrich the wine with hints of spice; the finish of Caliz is long and saline.
Kurtatsch Caliz presents a straw yellow color with bright highlights; the delicate bouquet evokes ripe pineapple, baby bananas, and citron zest. The characteristic richness of Mediterranean fruit is integrated with an energetic acidic structure derived from selected batches of Chardonnay from high-altitude vineyards.
Kurtatsch Caliz Chardonnay is perfect paired with aperitifs and appetizers or served with fish dishes.
