THE WINERY – MASSOLINO
The history of the Massolino family and their wine has been linked to Serralunga d’Alba since 1896, when Giovanni founded his winery. Giovanni was the first to bring electricity to the village.
An enterprising, tenacious, and creative man, the forefather of a family that has made the union of inspiration and tradition a source of pride.
The first cellar was built by Giuseppe, son of the founder Giovanni, who together with his sister Angela extended the estate into the finest lands and in 1934 was among the founders of the Consorzio di Tutela Barolo e Barbaresco. At the time, Giuseppe’s family included six children. Three of them, Giovanni, Camilla, and Renato, would follow in their father’s footsteps, transforming the company with the purchase of crus that are true jewels: Margheria, Parafada, and Vigna Rionda.

Making wine with passion in its territory of origin, preserving the character of the native grape in the belief that a deep and palpable bond exists between the vines, the hills, and the winemakers, forged by a shared history in the same places. Since 1896, the Massolino family has produced wine this way, faithful to this philosophy and the ability to innovate in the name of tradition.

BAROLO PARAFADA
-Parafada Vineyard-
The “Parafada” vineyard is also located in the municipality of Serralunga d’Alba. It reaches an altitude of 330 m a.s.l. and covers 1.13 hectares. It features calcareous marl soil. The age of the vines, the superb full southern exposure, and the wind-sheltered ridge provide raw materials of absolute excellence.
-Tasting Notes-
- Color: intense and brilliant garnet red which, naturally, tends to evolve with aging.
- Nose: deep and very broad, offering a variety of aromas dominated by red fruits combined with floral and spicy notes. The hallmark elegance and refinement of Nebbiolo are ever-present, especially after a few years of aging.
- Palate: powerful, rich, and austere, this Barolo extraordinarily expresses the immense complexity of the Serralunga d’Alba terroir; a perfect wine for long aging.
- Pairings: elegantly accompanies substantial first courses like Barolo risotto and rich, flavorful main courses such as roasted meats. After a few years of aging, it equally expresses its remarkable potential as a meditation wine or paired with hard and semi-hard cheeses.
