DOMAINE ROLAND LAVANTUREUX Petit Chablis 2022
It all began in the 1960s, when Marine and Gervais Lavantureux produced wine at their estate in Chablis, Burgundy, for friends and family. The first “tasters” were so fascinated that customers soon followed and orders began to grow. It was then that the family realized wine could be more than a hobby; it could become their life’s work.
Twenty years later, Roland Lavantureux, the first to bottle wines under his own name, expanded the estate from 5 to 20 hectares and laid the foundations of the maison we know today. Currently, his sons Arnaud and David, the next generation, lead the winery with a clear philosophy: minimal interference and maximum expression of the terroir, crafting each cuvée with the detail and patience required to respect the identity of every plot.
The Lavantureux brothers farm their vineyards sustainably, using plowing and natural grass cover to preserve the biodiversity of the Chablis soil. The vines have a respectable average age of 60 years. The estate’s goal is to bring out the best of each terroir based on the specific characteristics of the soil and the vintage.
Domaine Roland Lavantureux is located in Lignorelles, in the Chablis region, halfway between Paris and Beaune. The vineyards are situated in Chablis Premier Cru and Grand Cru plots.
The soils are predominantly clay-limestone. The wines are white, produced from Chardonnay, and intensely express the minerality of the Chablis terroir.
PETIT CHABLIS
Grapes for the Petit Chablis grow in the region’s finest locations, in the highest areas where limestone-rich soil favors the production of delicate, greenish-yellow wines. They feature citrus notes of grapefruit and lemon, pronounced herbal hints of cassis leaves and verbena, a light mineral touch, great freshness, a light structure, and a pleasant savory finish.
Harvesting is done by hand to select the best grapes and avoid damage. After harvest, the grapes are gently pressed. The use of steel preserves the fragrant aromas of flowers and fruits—acacia, hawthorn, and apple—complemented by a mineral note. Vinification takes place at a controlled temperature in stainless steel. Aging on fine lees gives the wine a delicate creaminess and greater depth.
Very fresh and sometimes sharp in their early years, these wines reach a perfect balance after a modest evolution, which for Petit Chablis is 2–3 years.
Perfect with escargot à la bourguignonne and goat cheeses
