CONTERNO FANTINO Barolo Castelletto Vigna Pressenda 2020
-ORGANIC WINE-
This process—complex only in appearance—is, for us, the most natural one.
A wine is the offspring of the land where its vine was cultivated; once it reaches the cellar, it must be nurtured every step of the way, much like a member of the family.
Our wine is one of us.
THE CONTERNO FANTINO ESTATE
Founded in 1982 by Claudio Conterno and Guido Fantino, the Conterno Fantino estate now cultivates 27 hectares of vineyards planted with four grape varieties—Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto, and Chardonnay—producing 140,000 bottles annually. Over time, Alda, Fabio, and Elisa Fantino have joined the two founders, each taking on specific roles; soon, Noemi and Matteo Conterno will also join the team. Additionally, the estate employs about ten full-time staff members.
Environmental sustainability, the preservation of biodiversity, and respect for the land and its heritage serve as the guiding principles for managing the vineyards, which are farmed entirely according to organic practices (certified by CCPB). To further reduce its environmental footprint, the winery—expanded in 2008—incorporates various techniques focused on energy conservation and the use of renewable resources, including a geothermal system, solar panels, and a phytodepuration (natural water purification) system for wastewater.
Conterno Fantino approaches its winemaking with a primary focus on identity: from the careful manual selection of grape clusters and harvesting in crates, to the preservation of the vineyards’ distinct aromas and the use of spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts. from the careful use of wood for aging to the minimal use of sulfites, and finally to bottle maturation.
