the Gaja family settled in Piedmont in the mid-seventeenth century.
Five generations have alternated in the production of wine since Giovanni Gaja, in 1859, founded the winery in Barbaresco, in the heart of the Langhe.
Angelo, son of Giovanni, represents the second generation.
In 1905 he married Clotilde Rey, a tenacious and ambitious woman who exercised a strong influence on him, directing him towards productive choices inspired by total dedication to quality.

The word “Sorì” means a hilltop with a southern exposure.
“Tildìn” was the nickname of Angelo Gaja’s grandmother, Clothilde Rey.
She was a visionary who was instrumental in acquiring some of the choicest parcels for the Gaja Estate, as well as being the inspiration behind Angelo’s continuous quest to innovate.
Gaja Distribuzione, an import and distribution company, was founded in 1977 by the Gaja family to offer the Italian market a selection of wines and accessories for the food and wine sector from other countries.
Tasting notes:
- intense purple.
- Complex aromas of toasted bread, minerals, sour cherries, cedar and spices.
- Round taste, strong body and ripe tannins are typical for this wine of great finesse
