PRUNOTTO Barbaresco 2023
THE WINERY – PRUNOTTO
Prunotto is located in Alba, the most important center of the Langhe, equidistant from Barbaresco and Barolo; on the right bank of the Tanaro river, on a gentle plain surrounded by the vineyards of the Langhe and Roero.
The Antinori family, captivated by the fascinating context of Alba and the surrounding areas with such unique vineyards and soils, decided to take on this terroir with the conviction of starting a journey that would lead Prunotto to be one of the most significant wineries in the Piedmontese wine production scene today.
Prunotto’s vineyards extend for a total of about 50 hectares within the Langhe and Monferrato territories.
The winery conducts studies, research, and experimentation in the vineyards without adopting a fixed formula, but evaluating each year the methods and timing for vine care and the production of each individual wine, respecting its characteristics and enhancing its best potential.
Among the estate vineyards, those of Bussia, Bric Turot, and Costamiole stand out, as well as the vineyards used to produce Mompertone and Bricco Colma.
2023 Vintage
PRUNOTTO Barbaresco 2023: the vintage began with a mild winter, though rich in precipitation including snow, which guaranteed excellent water reserves in the soil. Bud break was regular, with slight and localized frosts in mid-April causing a reduction in yield but not affecting the quality of the harvest. Spring brought a long period of fine weather that lasted throughout the summer, with temperatures remaining within the seasonal average without excesses, and some storms between June and July. Excellent temperature fluctuations during the harvest period allowed the grapes to reach an excellent state of ripeness and a good balance in terms of sugar, freshness, and polyphenols. Harvesting began on October 11th and ended on the 14th of the same month.
Vinification
Fermentation took place over approximately 10 days at a maximum temperature of 30 °C. Malolactic fermentation was completed before winter. The wine aged for at least 12 months in oak barrels of various capacities. It then refined for about 1 year in the bottle before being released onto the market.
The great diversity of vineyard exposure due to the shape of the ‘bricco’—hill in Piedmontese dialect—and the specific clonal selection, combine with aging in large barrels of different capacities for a balanced and pleasant Barbaresco.
-Tasting Notes-
Intense garnet red color, lively and bright. On the nose, it expresses intense notes of violet and rose petals accompanied by hints of jam, mountain hay, and spicy sensations. On the palate, it is enveloping, full, harmonious, and velvety; it reveals intense balsamic notes and a long taste-olfactory persistence.
Expression of a land rich in history
Prunotto’s Barbaresco comes from vineyards in the Barbaresco, Treiso, and Neive areas, representing the most elegant expression of Nebbiolo. An aristocratic yet accessible and pleasant wine, aged in large barrels of various sizes to enhance its harmony and softness on the palate.
