MASSOLINO Parussi Barolo 2017

THE WINERY – MASSOLINO

The history of the Massolino family and their wine has been linked to Serralunga d’Alba since 1896, when Giovanni founded his winery. Giovanni was the first to bring electricity to the village.

An enterprising, tenacious, and creative man, the forefather of a family that has made the union of inspiration and tradition a source of pride.

The first cellar was built by Giuseppe, son of the founder Giovanni, who together with his sister Angela extended the estate into the finest lands and in 1934 was among the founders of the Consorzio di Tutela Barolo e Barbaresco. At the time, Giuseppe’s family included six children. Three of them, Giovanni, Camilla, and Renato, would follow in their father’s footsteps, transforming the company with the purchase of crus that are true jewels: Margheria, Parafada, and Vigna Rionda.

…philosophy…

Making wine with passion in its territory of origin, preserving the character of the native grape in the belief that a deep and palpable bond exists between the vines, the hills, and the winemakers, forged by a shared history in the same places. Since 1896, the Massolino family has produced wine this way, faithful to this philosophy and the ability to innovate in the name of tradition.
Ultimately, remaining true to themselves.

BAROLO PARUSSI

Parussi is the first Barolo in the winery’s history born outside the borders of Serralunga, in another highly local terroir: Castiglione Falletto. The traditional vinification and aging shared with its Serralunga d’Alba “siblings” enhance the well-known ability of the Nebbiolo grape to offer different expressions even with minimal variations in the microclimate and soil where it is grown.

-Parussi Vineyard-

The “Parussi” vineyard is located in Castiglione Falletto (map sheet no. 2, parcels no. 342, 108, 168).
Its altitude is 300 m a.s.l., with a total surface area of 1.3 ha.
The excellent southeast/southwest exposure of the vineyard, located at the top of the hill in the Parussi sub-zone, guarantees the production of extraordinary quality grapes, with the tannic structure and expression of the Castiglione Falletto terroir.

-Tasting Notes-

  • Color: intense garnet red.
  • Nose: ethereal and enveloping bouquet with intense and persistent notes of sweet spices, sandalwood, tobacco, and leather.
  • Palate: structured and powerful, it shows a remarkable austerity in its early years that softens over time. The very dense and robust tannins certainly ensure longevity. The very long finish highlights the character of Castiglione Falletto.
