MASSOLINO Parussi Barolo 2017
MASSOLINO Parussi Barolo 2017
THE WINERY – MASSOLINO
The history of the Massolinos and their wine became entwined with the history of Serralunga d’Alba in 1896, when Giovanni founded the Estate. Giovanni was the very first person to bring the electric current to the village. An enterprising, tenacious and creative man, progenitor of a family that has made the combination of inspiration and tradition something to be proud of.
-Family-
The first wine cellar was built by Giuseppe, son of the founder Giovanni, who, together with his sister Angela, extended his estate into the best soils and, in 1934, was one of the founders of the Consortium for the Defence of Barolo and Barbaresco. At that time, Giuseppe had six children. Three of them, Giovanni, Camilla and Renato, followed in their father’s footsteps, expanding the estate with the purchase of cru vineyards which are authentic jewels: Margheria, Parafada and Vigna Rionda.
-Philosophy-
Making wine with passion, in its land of origin, preserving the typical characteristics of the autochthonous grape varieties; being convinced that there is a deep and tangible link between the vines, hills and winegrowers, made up of affinities cemented, by habit, to the land. Since 1896, the Massolino family has been making wine this way, loyal to this philosophy and to the capacity for innovation in the name of tradition. In short, loyal to itself.
BAROLO PARUSSI
Parussi is the first Barolo made from grapes grown outside Serralunga d’Alba, in another fantastic area: Castiglione Falletto.
The traditional vinification and ageing processes, which are the same as those used for its “Barolo brothers” from Serralunga d’Alba, highlight the well-known capacity of Nebbiolo grapes to deliver Barolos with different fascinating characteristics reflecting even the slightest changes in the microclimate and soil the grapes were grown in.
-Vineyard Parussi-
The vineyard “Parussi” is located in Castiglione Falletto (sheet no.2,land parcel no. 342,108,168).
Its altitude is 300 m above sea level, the total area is 1.3 hectares.
The excellent south-easterly/south-westerly exposure of the vineyard, situated on the crest of the hill, in the Parussi, sub-zone, guarantees the production of extraordinary quality grapes, with the tannic structure and expression of the land of Castiglione Falletto.
-Tasting notes-
- Colour: deep garnet red
- Scent: ethereal and enveloping with intense and persistent notes of sweet spices, sandalwood, tobacco and leather.
- Taste: great structure. Remarkable tannin which softens with time and make it a perfect wine also for ageing. Its very long finish is typical of Barolos from Castiglione Falletto.
- Perfect with the rich, traditional cuisine of the region, stewed meats and medium- long matured cheeses.
