Elio Grasso Barbera d’Alba Vigna Martina 2023
ELIO GRASSO
“We love to be recognized first as farmers and then as producers: it is our way of honoring and continuing the work of those who came before us and faced the typical difficulties of working with nature and wine.” This is the philosophy on which the family-run wine estate Elio Grasso is based.
Located in Monforte d’Alba, the estate’s 18 hectares are cultivated with Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto and Chardonnay grapes. From these, wines are crafted that can be defined as a concentrate of culture, terroir and tradition.
With an annual average of approximately 90,000 bottles, every production process is meticulously controlled, from supervising the work among the vines to final bottling. In the cellar, the technological equipment is state-of-the-art, but the management remains purely artisanal.
This gives rise to wines that combine character and balance, structure and territorial expression; labels that for years have made the Elio Grasso winery one of the most authoritative and prestigious estates in the Langhe region.
BARBERA D’ALBA VIGNA MARTINA
First vintage: 1988
Harvest period and method: third week of September, first week of October with manual harvesting
“Vigna Martina” is the name that the Elio Grasso winery gives to a special Barbera d’Alba, which takes shape from the very parcel that lends its name to the label. A small plot of land, just over three hectares in size, facing south and southwest, situated at approximately 380 meters above sea level and characterized by calcareous subsoil tending toward sandy.
Vinification and Aging
The vinification of Barbera d’Alba Vigna Martina involves alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with daily pump-overs. Aging involves 12 months in new and used oak barriques followed by at least 8 months of bottle rest.
