Barbera d’Asti Pomorosso Coppo 2020
Barbera d’Asti Pomorosso Coppo 2020
History
The history of the Coppo winery is inextricably intertwined with that of Piedmontese wine, particularly with the development of Canelli, the home and capital of Italian sparkling wine, still one of Italy’s most important winemaking centers.
A story of tradition and a courageous vision of the future, of sacrifice and innovation.
A tale that demonstrates the Coppo family’s unconditional love for their homeland, the grape varieties always cultivated in Piedmont, and the long family tradition.
The company’s origins date back to 1892 and for over 120 years have followed the fortunes of the family, still the sole owner today.
The ability, since its inception, to manage its own vineyards and to vinify and bottle the grapes produced under its own brand make the Coppo winery one of the oldest wineries in Italy.
Finally, in 2012, Unioncamere (Italian Chamber of Commerce) included the company in the national register of historic companies, with more than a century of uninterrupted activity in the same product sector.
It’s well known that Canelli is the capital of Moscato, and that Barbera has also been produced here since ancient times. This is a lesser-known fact, but significant for those who are attentive to fully understanding the values of a territory. The hills surrounding Canelli have been densely planted with vineyards for centuries, and the 56 hectares owned or managed by the Coppo family are all within this area, except for Nebbiolo and Gavi, which seem distant despite being just a few kilometers away. The company’s philosophy is straightforward and explicit: a wine is produced because it is part of the history of the local people and family tradition.
