Barbera d’Alba CASCINA FRANCIA Conterno 2014

Giacomo Conterno is one of the most exciting wineries of what is, precisely, the magical territory of the Langhe: each descendant of the Conterno has put in this reality a fundamental step for the history and prestige of which today The company enjoys deservedly worldwide.

It was the beginning of the 20th century, when Giacomo Conterno gave life to the winery, in the municipality of Monforte d’Alba.

The son of historic winemakers in the area, Giacomo began to make Barolo wine, which at the time was sold loose in demijohns.

Subsequently, his son Giovanni was the true precursor of the times: through the selection of grapes from local wine producers, in 1912 he bottled Barolo for the first time.

The other son, Aldo, will instead undertake an independent path that will lead him to the birth of the Poderi Aldo Conterno company, in the area of Bussia a Monforte.

In 1924 Giovanni’s son Giacomo produced the Riserva Monfortino for the first time and in 1974 he bought the company’s first vineyard: the cru “Francia”, in Serralunga d’Alba, the most suitable area for Barolo together to that of Monforte.

From that moment on, Giacomo Conterno will no longer buy grapes from local farmers, but will dedicate himself exclusively to the work of his own vineyards.

Tasting Notes

The 2014 Barbera d’Alba Cascina Francia is bigger, richer and broader than the Cerretta. Rose petals, sweet herbs, plums and dark cherries wrap around the palate in this striking, intensely satisfying Barbera.
