BIBI GRAETZ

In the late 1990s, Bibi Graetz was faced with the decision of whether to renew the leases on the old-vine vineyards surrounding his family’s Castello di Vincigliata, a romantic medieval castle high on the hills above Firenze in Fiesole, Toscana. The son of Norwegian-Swiss-Israeli parents raised in Italy, Bibi was not a winemaker; he was an artist who had trained at Academia dell’Arte in Firenze.

Bibi did the only thing he could: he became a winemaker. Aided by trained enologist Alberto Antonini, a world-famous consultant and the former head winemaker at the Antinori family of estates, Bibi’s IGT wines quickly garnered notice. Today, Bibi Graetz’s estate owns just 37 acres of grapes, but he leases an additional 200 acres in and around Chianti Classico, growing only indigenous Tuscan grapes, using only organic agriculture, and crafting wines that manage to be both nuanced and outrageous, capturing the hearts and minds of wine-lovers around the globe.

Supertuscan made with 100% Sangiovese from old vines, this wine is the result of the combination of tradition and creativity, elevating the idea of Tuscan Sangiovese and bringing the word “Supertuscan” to the next level.
