SOTTIMANO Basarin Barbaresco 2023
AZ. AGRICOLA SOTTIMANO Basarin Barbaresco 2023
THE SOTTIMANO WINERY
The Sottimano winery has always placed sound agriculture at the heart of its modus operandi. For several years, it has come full circle with increasingly pure and authentic wines, worthy ambassadors of a special land.
Andrea Sottimano inherited an extraordinary agricultural sensitivity from his father Rino, who has always been tireless in his work among the vines. Behind the scenes, but equally fundamental, is the meticulous work of Elena and Claudia, Andrea’s sisters. Rino never fell into the trap of the pesticide industry’s false promises: here, they have always worked hard with copper, sulfur, a hoe, and plenty of sweat. Today, fortunately, there are less strenuous and increasingly low-impact solutions that Andrea continues to research and apply—the best possible way to enhance and preserve a truly sublime and diverse heritage of crus.
BARBARESCO BASARIN
Barbaresco Basarin is characterized by balsamic herbs and spices. On the palate, notes of wild fruit emerge alongside an intense floral texture; long, velvety tannins accompany a spicy finish. Hailing from the renowned Basarin cru, this wine is an ode to the Nebbiolo grape grown on clay and limestone soils, which grant the wine extraordinary complexity even in its youth.
– WINEMAKING AND AGING –
After a careful selection of the grapes, alcoholic fermentation occurs spontaneously. Following long maceration on the skins and a period of submerged cap, the wine is racked into wood where it completes malolactic fermentation. Resting in the bottle for approximately another year allows the wine to reach its full expressive potential.
– TASTING NOTES –
To the eye, it presents an intense garnet red, from which a rich and enveloping aromatic bouquet emerges. On the nose, scents of ripe red fruit, such as plums and cherries, are followed by floral fragrances of violet and elegant spicy notes of black pepper and leather. In the mouth, Barbaresco Basarin shows well-structured yet polished tannins that invite a long sip. Its freshness, combined with remarkable persistence, reveals hints of dark chocolate and tobacco, leaving a lasting trail of licorice and minerals on the palate.
– IDEAL PAIRINGS –
Perfect for pairing with rich, structured dishes such as Barolo-braised beef or tagliatelle with meat ragù, this wine is also ideal for atmospheric evenings, where it can be enjoyed on its own to fully appreciate its complexity.
– STORAGE –
With remarkable aging potential, a glass of Sottimano’s 2023 Barbaresco Basarin is an invitation to discover the depths and nuances of Piedmontese winemaking tradition—a journey through history and terroir that captivates with every sip.
