MARCHESI ANTINORI CASTELLO DELLA SALA Conte della Vipera 2023
THE FAMILY – MARCHESI ANTINORI
A passion passed down through 26 generations
The Antinori family has been dedicated to wine production for more than six hundred years: since 1385, when Giovanni di Piero Antinori became a member of the Arte Fiorentina dei Vinattieri. Throughout its long history, across 26 generations, the family has always directly managed this activity with innovative and sometimes courageous choices, while always maintaining unwavering respect for tradition and terroir.
Today the company is chaired by Albiera Antinori, with the support of her two sisters Allegra and Alessia, personally involved in the business activities. Their father, Marchese Piero Antinori, is currently the Honorary President of the company. Tradition, passion and intuition have been the driving qualities that have led the Marchesi Antinori to establish themselves as one of the leading Italian producers of high-quality wines.
Ancient Roots
Every vintage, every terroir, every idea is a new beginning, a new pursuit of ever higher quality standards. As Marchese Piero likes to say: “ancient roots play an important role in our philosophy, but they have never inhibited our innovative spirit.”
CONTE DELLA VIPERA
From a careful selection of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon grapes. Conte della Vipera pays tribute to the castle’s first owners, and the label depicts the 13th-century Saint John’s Chapel located on the estate.
Tasting Notes
Conte della Vipera 2023 has a straw-yellow color with bright green highlights. The nose offers fruity sensations of pink grapefruit and lychee combined with fresh, delicate notes of sage and elderflower. The palate is refined, supple, and characterized by excellent freshness. The finish is dominated by hints of lime and pineapple.
– 2023 VINTAGE –
The 2023 vintage was characterized by a mild winter with little rain and a spring marked by higher-than-average rainfall, which helped slow down budding and subsequent plant growth, replenishing the soil’s water reserves. Flowering for Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon occurred in early June, followed by fruit set a week later, a delay of about 7 days compared to the average.
From the second half of July through August, the generally warm weather, with excellent day-night temperature swings, favored slow and steady ripening.
Harvesting began with Sauvignon Blanc in late August and concluded with Sémillon in mid-September. At harvest, the grapes were healthy, ripe, with excellent acidity and an outstanding aromatic profile.
