Le Macchiole Paleo Rosso 2022

Le Macchiole wine cellar are in Bolgheri, Tuscany, on the Etruscan Coast. In this magical place, where rolling hills are blanketed by forest, where vineyards and olive trees meet with the Tyrrhenian Sea, Le Macchiole has taken shape over time.

Paleo Rosso Toscana IGT Le Macchiole

Paleo Rosso arrived in 1989. It is the wine that has evolved well over time: born originally as a classic Bordeaux blend in 2001, eventually arriving as a 100% Cabernet Franc. This is a beautiful story of obstinacy in challenging the stereotype of Cabernet Franc, which is already difficult to produce, and even more so as a pure varietal wine. Today Paleo Rosso is a symbol of Bolgheri despite its distinct individualism and originality within the region; it is one of the most famous Italian Cabernet Franc wines in the world. The word Paleo is a common name referring to the “Festuca Pratensis “ of the family Gramineae, an herb spontaneously growing on the Tuscan coast.

LE MACCHIOLE Winery

Le Macchiole Winery extends over 22 hectares of vineyards at the foot of the Bolgheri hills. Located in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma, the clayey, elastic soils nourish the vines, making them precious.
The family of Eugenio Campolmi (who passed away a few years ago) and his wife Cinzia, who runs the winery with talent and enthusiasm, have always had a strong bond with this land.

The word Paleo comes from the common name for Festuca Pratensis (of the Gramineae family), a wild grass typical of the Tuscan coast.

The grapes are harvested during the second and third weeks of September and fermented and macerated in concrete vats for 25 days. Malolactic fermentation takes place in barriques, and the aging process, which lasts 20 months, takes place 75% in new barriques and 25% in second-use barriques.

Tasting Notes

Made in 1989, this great wine is the symbol of the winery and one of the most representative labels of the Bolgheri area. Originally a classic Bordeaux blend, it became a pure Cabernet Franc in 2001, quickly achieving resounding success. Its name recalls that of a wild herb from the Tuscan coast, symbolizing territorial identity and the determination to achieve every goal.

Color: Intense ruby, densely textured with hints of black fruits and Mediterranean scrub, yellow bell pepper, and black pepper.
Taste: Opulent on the palate, well-structured, with a spicy roundness that lingers through a very long finish.

Enjoy it with a traditional Tuscan dish, such as wild boar’s head alla castagnetana, a dish rich in history, charm, and refined culinary art, typical of Castagneto Carducci, home of the Le Macchiole winery.

Original wines with an extraordinary personality, fragrant, rich, and complex, capable like few others of enhancing the characteristics of the Bolgheri terroir, proving themselves, season after season, to be undisputed champions.
