GIACOMO CONTERNO Arione Barolo 2018
GIACOMO CONTERNO Arione Barolo 2018
THE WINERY – GIACOMO CONTERNO
The Winery was founded in 1900 in Monforte d’Alba by Giacomo, descendant of a family of winegrowers active since 1800. His son Giovanni was the first to bottle Barolo Monfortino in 1912, masterfully crafted from selected grapes from the area. At the time, wine, sold in barrels or demijohns, was rarely found in bottles.
In 1934, Giacomo produced Barolo Monfortino, named to honor the ancestral home in Monforte. In 1974, he purchased fourteen hectares of land in Serralunga d’Alba. These lands immediately proved to be particularly suited for the cultivation of Nebbiolo and Barbera grapes. From this point forward, Giacomo Conterno would no longer purchase grapes from local growers. Instead, the estate would focus exclusively on working its own vineyards.
The wine born from this exceptional terroir requires no forcing. Indeed, it is sufficient to enhance to the fullest what nature has provided. This is the philosophy of Cantina Giacomo Conterno, which is undoubtedly an ambassador of Italian excellence throughout the world.
The two Barolos — Cascina Francia and the Monfortino Riserva (produced only in the best vintages) — are legendary, high-end wines, but the Barbera Cascina Francia is all you need to touch the sky with a glass.
BAROLO ARIONE
Giacomo Conterno’s Barolo “Arione” is a prestigious interpretation of the Arione cru, located in the southernmost part of the Serralunga d’Alba commune. This is a label of great prestige and pedigree, standing at the pinnacle of the denomination’s production, crafted by one of the most monumental interpreters of the Langhe region. Long maturation in large oak casks yields an elegant, intense, and complex Barolo, characterized by the classic structure of Serralunga wines. These wines require time to reach full maturity but guarantee extraordinary longevity and a unique, marvelous evolution.
