GATTINARA OSSO SAN GRATO ANTONIOLO 2009

ANTONIOLO

Antoniolo winery born in 1948 in Gattinara in Northern Piedmont, thanks to the work of Mario Antoniolo, with the help of his daughter Rosanna, who took over the management of the winery in 1980.

Today the winery is passed to the children of Alberto and Lorella. The common thread that guides the work of the family Antoniolo through generations is the great love and great respect for the land they farm, trying to apply simple and minimally invasive methods, leaving space to the work of nature.

The land of Gattinara has been producing wine since Roman times, as evidenced by archaeological findings. In the vineyards of Gattinara, Nebbiolo grape is grown especially, in these areas is called Spanna from immemorial time.

The 11 hectares of the family Antoniolo have from 35 to 40 years of age and grow in areas that are particularly suited to windy climate, southern exposure and a ground-moraine origin of porphyritic volcanic.

In the cellar you prefer traditional methods such as soaking with indigenous yeasts for 14-16 days, followed by aging for a period ranging from 18 to 30 months in oak barrels, and finally aging for 12 months in bottle.

GATTINARA OSSO SAN GRATO

The Gattinara Osso San Grato of Antoniolo winery enters in the Olympus of high quality Piedmont Nebbiolo. Osso San Grato is the name of one cru of Gattinara, belonging almost entirely to the family Antoniolo, a very important family for this area.

This winery is able to create real stars of Italian oenology, which shine with their garnet-colored glows.

Their wines are complex handicrafts, able to express the purity of Gattinara terroir’s, of whom Gattinara Osso San Grato is a noble ambassador. This precious Nebbiolo, caught our attention with its bouquet admirably rich and smoothly it enticed the tasting. It’s just in this occasion, with great politeness, Gattinara Osso San Grato reveals every single nuance of its shy character that opens up suddenly with great elegance of harmonious scents.

That’s how we convince ourselves that we are dealing with an artwork, rather than with a bottle of wine.

  • Colour: Ruby red with garnet hues
  • Scent: Elegant fruity, floral and spicy with hints of pink, purple, undergrowth, china and slate
  • Taste: Full and rich, balanced and persistent
