SOTTIMANO Basarin Barbaresco 2023
SOTTIMANO Basarin Barbaresco 2023
THE WINERY – AZ. AGRICOLA SOTTIMANO FROM NEIVE
Our family has been making wine in the Barbaresco production zone since the 1970s.
Craftsmanship, traditional methods and respect for the unique characteristics of the land inspire our work today, just as they did in the past.
The story of our winery began at the end of the 1960s, when Rino had completed his oenology studies and decided to start making wine. Enthusiasm, a fair amount of courage and a dash of good luck led to the purchase of the farmhouse that is now home to the winery and some land in the Cottà area.
Having started out with just one small vineyard, over the years, with a great deal of determination and sacrifice, Rino and his wife Anna were able to buy new plots of land in some of the Barbaresco crus, choosing to make single-grape wines from the outset.
“I have always believed firmly in working hard in the vineyard to make great wines. And that is why, right from the start, I always tried to avoid chemicals and herbicides so as not to alter the natural balance of our hills” cit. Rino
Today Rino is joined by his children Andrea, Elena and Claudia and they all work together, running the vineyard and cellar with passion and dedication.
BARBARESCO Basarin
The nose is characterised by balsamic herbs and spices. The palate offers a hint of wild fruit. In addition to intense floral notes, lingering, velvety tannins accompany a spice note.
– VINIFICATION AND AGEING –
Meticulous selection of the grapes is followed by spontaneous alcoholic fermentation. After maceration on skins and also a period of submerged cap, the wine is racked into wood where malolactic fermentation is completed. In order to reach its full expressive potential this wine rests in the bottle for about one more year.
– TASTING PROPERTIES –
colour bright garnet red; nose intense and complex, with fruity overtones conjuring up plums and blackberries, and spicy hints of vanilla and roasted hazelnuts; taste full-bodied, soft and tannic; a big, yet very flavoursome wine.
– PAIRINGS –
a great match for braised and baked red meats and game, and mature cheeses. Does not fail to impress either with chocolate when mature.
