This wine is produced every year and represents 10 to 30% of total production, depending on the quality of the vintage (the finest vintages see the smallest quantity of Nebbiolo produced).

It is the second label of Barbaresco and is produced with grapes from young vines or less distinguished production. This allows us to release our wine before the legally required aging period and maintain the quality of Barbaresco at the highest possible level.

The Story

It was already known in the late 19th century that Nebbiolo in the Barbaresco area had very different characteristics from other regions of Piedmont.

For this reason, the then director of the Royal School of Enology in Alba, Domizio Cavazza, who resided in Barbaresco, decided to bring together several winegrowers and producers to establish a cooperative winery that could produce a distinctive wine, given that the Nebbiolo grapes from that area were beginning to flow into what would later become the Barolo denomination.

It was precisely in 1894, the year in which the “Cantine Sociali di Barbaresco” were created, for the “production of luxury and table wines”.

Initially composed of nine winegrowers, the cooperative began vinification using the cellars belonging to director Domizio Cavazza’s own estate, who, in agreement with the other members, chose to give the wine the same name as the village: Barbaresco.

The winery remained under Cavazza’s guidance until 1913, the year the headmaster passed away.

From then until today, “Produttori del Barbaresco” has enjoyed years of great success, currently counts over fifty contributing members, and manages approximately one hundred hectares of vineyards, exclusively planted with Nebbiolo and representing about 1/6 of the entire appellation area.

When mentioning a cooperative winery capable of making a difference through scale, quality, and accessible prices, Produttori del Barbaresco always comes to mind.

Full-bodied, intense notes of ripe red fruit, white pepper, anise.
