THE WINERY – SOLDERA CASE BASSE
CASE BASSE IS AN ESTATE COVERING OVER 23 HECTARES, AT AN ALTITUDE OF 320 METRES, IN THE SOUTHWESTERN AREA OF MONTALCINO; THE AREA PAR EXCELLENCE FOR GROWING THE SANGIOVESE VARIETY.
The history of the Soldera Case Basse winery began in the early 1970s.
Gianfranco and Graziella Soldera nurtured a project to produce a high-quality natural wine and knew they could only achieve this if they found a terroir with certain essential features.
When they discovered Case Basse, they knew they had found what they were looking for. Instinctively realising the potential of the place and bowled over by the beauty of the landscape; Gianfranco and Graziella decided to set up their winery here and planted the first vines between 1972 and 1973, carefully choosing the plots most suitable for growing Sangiovese.
It is thanks to the passion, dedication and care they devoted to this land that an extremely high-quality natural wine appreciated all over the world has been produced at Case Basse since the mid-1970s.
After Gianfranco Soldera passed away in February 2019, the family continued the business in full respect of the principles and founding values of Case Basse.
Graziella Soldera, Monica and Paolo, Mauro and Valeria are strengthening this character today and will enhance it in future with renewed passion, each of them enriching it with their own personality.
TOSCANA IGT/IGP
Since 2013 (with the 2006 wine) the winery has labelled its products as Toscana IGT/IGP Soldera Case Basse 100% Sangiovese.
Below are the details of the latest vintage on sale, as well as the vintages that have marked important stages for the winery
Vintage 2013
With the 2013 vintage, the first one after the damage suffered in 2012, Soldera Case Basse returned to maximum production, with over 16,000 bottles.
The 2013 wine underlines the unique nature of the winery’s terroir by inserting the brand CASE BASSE next to SOLDERA.
Lastly, in 2013 the TOSCANA appellation obtained the European designation of Protected Geographical Indication (PGI), which corresponds to the Italian Indicazione Geografica Tipica (IGT).
Tasting notes
- Colour: ruby red with garnet hues
- Scent: intense fruity scents of violets, blackberries and a pleasant hint of tobacco
- Taste: Intense and full bodied, fresh and cozy, with soft tannins and velvety, with a long finish
