BIONDI SANTI Annata Tenuta il Greppo Brunello di Montalcino 1997
WINERY – BIONDI SANTI
The Biondi Santi winery, firmly guided for decades by Franco Biondi Santi, has become a symbol of Montalcino, and today, under the guidance of his son Jacopo, it is the undisputed point of reference for all Brunello enthusiasts.
The Biondi Santi wines received their first important awards at the 1867 Universal Exhibition in Paris, imposing themselves on the international wine scene for their multifaceted elegance. It was, however, the now historic 1888 vintage that produced what we know today as Brunello di Montalcino.
The heart of the Biondi Santi winery coincides with the historic Il Greppo Estate; a total of 43 hectares, 25 of which are populated by Sangiovese vineyards, where there are very old plantings dating back as far as 1930.
BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO ANNATA IL GREPPO
“Spending one’s lifetime working amid nature, in this country blessed by God, is wonderful.”
Franco Biondi Santi
It is a rare phenomenon that a wine can trace its origins to a single man. Brunello di Montalcino, however, owes its existence to the creative genius of Clemente Santi and his nephew Ferruccio Biondi Santi who in the eighteen hundreds started producing barrel-aged single-varietal wines in Montalcino, betting on the extraordinary quality potential of Sangiovese grosso.
Since 1888, the first vintage of Brunello in history, Biondi-Santi has continued to produce wines renowned for their elegance and extraordinary longevity.
