BAROLO 2012 RISERVA VIGNA ELENA DOCG COGNO
BAROLO 2012 RISERVA VIGNA ELENA DOCG COGNO
The Elvio Cogno Winery produces the principle wines of the Langhe. The winery owns about fifteen hectares of vineyard property in Novello, one of eleven townships in the province of Cuneo in which Barolo DOCG production is allowed.
Today Nadia Cogno and Valter Fissore direct the winery with four generations of winemakers and vine growers, dedicated to obtaining excellence that begins with the unique terroir
Ravera is the most well-known cru, or zone of vineyards, of Novello. It is recognized for producing wines that are able to withstand time while maintaining their aromas and freshness intact.
Elvio Cogno proceeded with vineyard management with this mindset, emphasizing the idea that true progress in the enological field coincides with agriculture and organic practices, believing that methods and interventions should be practiced in full respect of the environment, humans, and workers.
The winery began the conversion towards organic production several years ago for practices that will be followed once European certification is obtained.
In addition to certification, the winery ensures a healthy vineyard ecosystem and environmental biodiversity by eliminating synthetic treatments and fertilizers in the vineyards and the use of chemicals and invasive practices in the cellars.
Tasting Notes:
Barolo Bricco Pernice, named after the rock on which courting partridges build their nests, is the very latest wine from Cogno.
The fruit of years of hard work, it is a dream come true.
Vigna Elena is a wine for Barolo purists, uncompromising in its style and character and disregarding of taste trends and market demands.
To create this honest Barolo, we naturally and meticulously follow the experience our grandparents handed down to us.
We use the same nebbiolo clone, cultivation system and yield, use of native yeasts, and aging in large barrels.
These practices, in addition to the unique microclimate of the Langhe, combine to create a wine worthy of its history and tradition, capable of raising the profile of the Barolo appellation.
The label of Vigna Elena attests to its excellence: a chick drawn by Elena for her mother Nadia and her father Valter when she was three years old.
Pairings:
Goes well with pasta dishes with game sauces, roasted and braised red meat, wild boar stew, mature and blue cheeses.
