Barbera d’Alba Doc G.B. Burlotto 2021
Burlotto is now considered one of Piemonte’s great small producers, thanks to the brilliant and highly traditional winemaking of G.B.’s great-great-grandson, Fabio Alessandria.
To some Barolo represents the very pinnacle of Italian wine.
This is the intense and seductive world of Nebbiolo, where solid tannins vie unexpectedly well with delicate fruit, and where age unwinds ever more complex flavours.
PRODUCER:
Today, Fabio Alessandria is following in the footsteps of his renowned ancestor Giovan Battista (G.B.) Burlotto who was one of the great figures of Barolo from the mid-19th century until his death in 1927.
G.B.’s wines were supplied to the Royal Court of Savoy and he was a pioneer in sending finished, bottled wines directly to their customers – rather than in bulk.
Rooted in tradition, without being stuck in the past, the flagship wine still comes from the incredible Barolo Monvigliero vineyard in the village of Verduno.
The labels still have the feel of those in G.B.’s day; the grapes are still foot-trodden, and the musts undergo 60 day macerations before long ageing in large botte.
All this wines are as highly regarded today as in G.B.’s time.
Their crystalline freshness and purity of fruit continues to strike the perfect chord for lovers of great Piedmont wines.
BARBERA D’ALBA BURLOTTO
The Barbera d’Alba of the Comm. G. B. Burlotto winery is a fresh and fruity red wine that appears at the sight with a great ruby red color.
MATCHING: Perfect with typical Piedmontese dishes. Ideal with pasta dishes prepared with meat, risotto and soups. Excellent combination with grilled red meats, grilled, with game and aged cheeses.
