MASSOLINO Margheria Barolo 2021

THE WINERY – MASSOLINO

The history of the Massolino family and their wine has been linked to Serralunga d’Alba since 1896, when Giovanni founded his winery. Giovanni was the first to bring electricity to the village.

An enterprising, tenacious, and creative man, the forefather of a family that has made the union of inspiration and tradition a source of pride.

The first cellar was built by Giuseppe, son of the founder Giovanni, who together with his sister Angela extended the estate into the finest lands and in 1934 was among the founders of the Consorzio di Tutela Barolo e Barbaresco. At the time, Giuseppe’s family included six children. Three of them, Giovanni, Camilla, and Renato, would follow in their father’s footsteps, transforming the company with the purchase of crus that are true jewels: Margheria, Parafada, and Vigna Rionda.

…philosophy…

Making wine with passion in its territory of origin, preserving the character of the native grape in the belief that a deep and palpable bond exists between the vines, the hills, and the winemakers, forged by a shared history in the same places. Since 1896, the Massolino family has produced wine this way, faithful to this philosophy and the ability to innovate in the name of tradition.
Ultimately, remaining true to themselves.

BAROLO MARGHERIA

Massolino’s Barolo “Margheria” is an important, intense, and structured wine with great aging potential, especially in Magnum format. It comes from the eponymous cru in Serralunga d’Alba and ages for 30 months in large Slavonian oak barrels. Spices, ripe fruit, undergrowth, and licorice blend into a texture of great richness, depth, and personality.

In Margheria, a historic cru with distinctive soil and climate conditions located in one of the most evocative positions in Serralunga d’Alba, a classy Barolo is born, transformed into a true estate legend by the Massolino family, vintage after vintage.

-Margheria Vineyard-

The Margheria vineyard, covering about one and a half hectares, belongs to this illustrious group: situated at an optimal altitude of 340 m above sea level and constantly sunny, it enjoys protection from the cold north-westerly winter winds by the Castelletto hill, with a mild microclimate perfect for the vine’s growth.

Furthermore, Margheria’s limestone soil with a good percentage of sand allows the wines born here to acquire a fine mineral quality and an elegant aromatic profile. This is clearly evident in Massolino’s Barolo Margheria: it is a “classic” wine, adhering to the traditional style of Serralunga Nebbiolo, with a harmonious palate and a powerful tannic structure in its youth, smoothed by the beneficial influence of time.
