LUCIANO SANDRONE Valmaggiore Nebbiolo 2023
LUCIANO SANDRONE Valmaggiore Nebbiolo 2023
THE WINERY LUCIANO SANDRONE
The Sandrone winery was established in 1978.
It was founded by the Sandrone family with the aim of producing wines that could translate into the bottle the finest expression of the Nebbiolo grape, grown in the fabulous and unique terroir of the Piedmontese Langhe.
With just under thirty hectares of vineyards, the Sandrone winery is today undoubtedly among the most important Barolo producers. The estate has been slowly but gradually expanded over the years, both in terms of vineyards and cellar facilities. It currently produces approximately 90,000-100,000 bottles per year.
However, it is remembered as one of the first Barolo wineries to be awarded 100 points by the renowned wine critic Robert Parker, for the 1990 vintage of Barolo Cannubi Boschis.
The Sandrone winery has embraced the theory of sustainability and follows organic farming standards.
It thus offers wines born from the union of artisanal traditions and professional expertise, representing the result of careful interaction between nature and winemaking. In short, these are bottles that reflect the history and culture of the land they come from, consistently delivering balance, purity, elegance, and harmony.
NEBBIOLO D’ALBA VALMAGGIORE
Nebbiolo d’Alba Valmaggiore is the aristocracy of wine. Absolutely complete, authoritative, and harmonious.
The amphitheater
Valmaggiore, in the Roero hills on the left bank of the Tanaro river, is one of the finest witnesses to origin and quality. As early as the mid-19th century, the Nebbiolo grapes produced in its rows set the price for the entire region. In the 1990s, the encounter with Valmaggiore was like a bolt from the blue for Luciano, Luca, and Barbara: love at first sight. Not only for its history and long viticultural tradition, but for the particular uniqueness of those sandy soils combined with the microclimate.
“Everything by hand”
Our Valmaggiore is an amphitheater facing the sun, with full exposure. It runs from west to east, passing through the south. Here, nature is rich and lush. The earth is soft and sandy, the slope extreme. From the initial planting of the vineyard, respect for nature and tradition has been strategic, and remains so every day as we cultivate row by row by hand, harvest the ripest grapes, and perform vineyard operations that turn the site into a laboratory for fine and original fruit.
Nebbiolo in Roero
Roero holds a great agronomic wealth that goes beyond viticulture. Here, Nebbiolo is distinguished by its finesse and elegance, and we, as in the past, convinced and proud, wish to express all the grace and refinement of Nebbiolo through Valmaggiore.
-Tasting notes-
- Color: ruby showing the first garnet reflections. It is a precious red, without compromise.
- Bouquet: broad and complex. Fragrant scents recall vegetal notes of iris and aromatic herbs, followed by fruity hints of wild strawberry, pomegranate, and raspberry candy. More evolved fruity notes follow, such as red fruit jam and dried apricot, along with spicy notes, predominantly cinnamon and vanilla. Finally, ethereal scents complete the wine’s proud richness.
- Palate: the flavor is warm, dry, elegant, and with long aromatic persistence. Alcoholic structure and acidity successfully seek harmony in a precious finesse of character. The passage of time will guide it toward perfection.
-Vinification-
Spontaneous fermentation. Maceration in open steel vats. Malolactic fermentation and aging in 500-liter French oak casks. Bottle aging for 18 months.
