Speri Winery

The Speri winery is immediately associated with two names: Amarone and Valpolicella. Amarone is undoubtedly the most representative wine of Valpolicella and the hallmark of Speri’s prestigious production.
The company’s history began in the first half of the 19th century with a few hectares adjacent to the Speri family home. Over the years, the company invested in the acquisition of new properties in the Valpolicella Classica area, eventually reaching 60 hectares.
It remains family-run, now in its seventh generation. Experience and strong roots in the local area allow Speri to establish itself as one of the great names in Valpolicella wine.

Monte Sant’Urbano Vineyard

The Speri family chooses daily to vinify only their own grapes, to adopt traditional planting systems best suited to native varieties (the open, inclined pergola), and to opt for cultivation methods with a very low environmental impact.

The Speri family’s vineyards are located in the Valpolicella Classica area, at altitudes ranging from 150 to 350 meters above sea level. They are divided into prestigious crus (the grapes of which are always vinified separately). They also border the “marogne,” traditional dry-stone walls of significant historical and cultural significance. The Sant’Urbano vineyard is located right in the center of this area.

From these 19 hectares of calcareous and volcanic soil comes the Amarone Vigneto Monte Sant’Urbano, the undisputed symbol of the Speri family, an excellent example of finesse and classicism. After selecting the vineyard’s finest bunches, the grapes are dried for a long period (3-4 months depending on the vintage). The finest bunches are hand-selected and laid out on traditional “arele” (racks). They are then left to rest for 120 days in humidity-controlled conditions. This results in the loss of approximately 40% moisture, resulting in a concentration of sugars, nutrients, and tannins. This is the fundamental basis for the construction of a wine with remarkable structure and smoothness, characterized by expressive complexity and undeniable longevity.

Tasting Notes

Color: Intense ruby ​​red, with garnet highlights
Nose: Intense and elegant, with notes of sour cherry jam, dried rose, and cinnamon, with a finish of rhubarb and coffee
Taste: Smooth and elegant, with strong tannins; warm and very persistent

Serving Temperature: 18-20°C

Ideal with red meats, roasts, game, and blue and aged cheeses.
