Fontodi Chianti Classico DOCG 2017
Fontodi winery is located in the heart of Chianti, in the valley south of Panzano, called Conca d’Oro. Here we find a terroir famous for its vocation to the cultivation of the wine, especially the Sangiovese, thanks to a perfect combination of altitude, soil composition, light and microclimate.
Fontodi was purchased in 1968 by the Manetti family. A family devoted for centuries to another activity typical of the Chianti.
In 1980 the whole family moved to the villa on the estate, which until then had been used as a country house. Here the sons Giovanni and Marco are starting to take an interest in wine, supported by the oenologist Franco Bernabei.
With the grapes of the vintage of 1980, alongside the traditional wine area, born “Flaccianello della Pieve”, produced by totally new methods compared to traditional culture, which is a huge hit.
Fontodi today represents a wine cellar capable of expressing in each bottle the essence of the terroir of the Conca d’Oro. This thanks to a biological management of the vineyard and an address in the cellar, for years in the hands of Franco Bernabei, able to emphasize their cru.
CHIANTI CLASSICO DOCG
Chianti Classico Fontodi is naturally fermented with wild yeasts and long macerations, and then is assigned to a slow aging in Allier and Troncais barriques. In the glass emerge the more typical aromas of Sangiovese, showing the great ability of Fontodi to accommodate a spontaneous and genuine development of its wines, expressing the rich complexity of the Chianti Classico terroir.
- Colour: Deep ruby red
- Scent: Floral scents of violet, followed by toasted hints of tobacco and leather
- Taste: Full and intense, with strong tannins and a long-lasting spicy closing
