Barbera d’Asti Marchesi di Gresy 2018
MARCHESI DI GRESY
With vineyards extending for 45 hectares on the hills of Langhe and Monferrato, Tenute Cisa Asinari dei Marchesi di Grésy is a landmark of piedmontese winemaking, with roots tracing back to the XVIII century.
We craft fine wines, always elegant and able to enhance a variety of experiences: from great celebrations, to everyday life.
Philosophy
Passion, but most of all respect for tradition, nature and varietal.
Wines of the highest qualitative level that don’t over-power, but astonish for their extreme elegance and complexity.
We want to transfer to the bottle the unique class of our vineyards, with all the nuances our terroir is able to express.
Therefore most of our efforts are concentrated in taking the best care of the vineyards.
Winemaking must not alter the work done in the vineyards, but has to complete it, enhancing the natural predisposition and identity of each grape.
BARBERA D’ASTI
Position of the vineyards
Located in La Serra estate in the commune of Cassine (Alessandria province). Southern exposure at an average altitude of 240m a.s.l.
Vinification and ageing
A traditional vinification. Temperature controlled maceration with regular pumpings over. Skin contact lasts around 10 days aiming to achieve an optimum extraction of colour, flavours and tannins. Subsequent malolactic fermentation in stainless still tanks. Ageing in wood for five months, partially in barriques of second and third “fill” and the remaining in Slavonian oak casks. Further ageing in bottle before release on the market.
Tasting notes
- Colour: Intense ruby red with violet reflections.
- Bouquet: Strong and rich typical aromas of blackberries, raspberries and ripe cherries.
- Taste: Fine and elegant, with great drinkability, owes its equilibrium to the balance between the good body and bright acidity.
Food pairing
Ideal with local salumi, tajarin and other kinds of pasta. Perfect also with fresh cheeses
