Brunello di Montalcino 2014 Tenuta Poggio di Sotto
Tenuta Poggio di Sotto
Poggio di Sotto was established in 1989 and is located on a hill to the south-east of Montalcino. Since its foundation, the estate has become famous for the high quality of the Sangiovese that it cultivates and has quickly achieved cult status. Located in Castelnuovo dell’Abate at the foot of Monte Amiata, the steep vineyards on the south-facing slopes are at altitudes of between 650 and 1300ft (250 to 400m). The stony soils are composed of gravel and clay in the lower sections, as well as sandy loam in the higher areas.
Brunello di Montalcino
So varied and complex that it is really necessary to take the time to discover this diamond among Tuscan wines. Initially, one can smell notes of wild herbs, cedar wood, raisins, ginger and mint. Over time, notes of prunes, tobacco and chocolate develop. Very fine on the palate with silky tannins. Despite its aromatic density, it is extremely delicate and fresh. Still very young-tasting. It is absolutely necessary to decant it for a while before drinking it or to let it sleep for some time in one’s cellar.
