Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2010 Tenuta Poggio di Sotto
Powerful but with a classical elegance. Deep yet lifting at the same time. Such class and length of flavour. Serious, layered and with the balance to suggest a long ageing capacity. Gripping tannins mix fluidly with a tense freshness and suave ripe fruit. Notes of dried rose petal, red cherries, forest berries and leather. Stunning. In the greatest years, Poggio di Sotto select their best vat and bottle it separately as Riserva after an extra 12 months on cask (60 months ageing in total.) The origin of the vines can therefore change but more often than not the Riserva comes from a parcel of mid slope vines situated halfway up the estate at 200 metres above sea level.
Founded in 1989 by Tuscan legend Piero Palmucci, Poggio di Sotto has swiftly become a benchmark, traditional Brunello estate, producing some of the most refined and sought-after wines in the region. Their 10 hectares of vineyards are all planted with low-yielding Sangiovese Grosso clones in the sunny Castelnuovo del Abate region on the south east side of Montalcino.
