The wine made here was never meant to exist. The potential of the unused slope was finally seen in the 1980\u2019s when, against all odds, advice and local tradition, the first vines were planted. Over the next three decades the vineyard has revealed many secrets, but still more remain to be uncovered.<\/p>\n<h3>-The family-<\/h3>\n<p>For 700 years the Frescobaldi family has combined tradition, experience and innovation with creativity and the pursuit of excellence. The family has always looked to develop and celebrate the diversity of Tuscany\u2019s terroir, being proud owners of some of the greatest vineyards in this region.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&lt;&lt;Masseto is a unique and magical place, surrounded by forests and caressed by sea breezes on hot summer days. A rare combination of sumptuous opulence and polished elegance.<br \/>\nAs a tribute to its rugged force, its softness, and the debt it owes to the soil from which it rises, Masseto was named after the rock-hard clusters of blue clay called \u2018massi\u2019 that form on the vineyard\u2019s surface.<\/p>\n<h3>-Vintage 2012-<\/h3>\n<p>This vintage combines the principal characteristics of a great Masseto: rich and generous but also very fresh and with a firm structure in a wine of great intensity and complexity. Intense in colour, the olfactory impact develops classic notes of red and black fruit, chocolate and liquorice, subtly enhanced by notes of toasted wood. The palate shows well-rounded and full, with a thick, dense tannic texture that boasts rich fruit and spice notes.
