Each work is only used once, just for the wine of that vintage. Since the presentation of the 1982 Barolo Villero in 1988, the artist\u2019s labels have been dedicated exclusively to the wines grown on this great vineyard.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How the idea was born<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Alfredo Currado tells the story:\u00a0<\/strong>\u201cThe idea was conceived in the company of a group of friends one winter\u2019s evening around a bottle of Barolo Rocche. Some of them were artists, and while we were tasting a few bottles they were fired with enthusiasm just on seeing the colour of the wine in the glass. They said wines like these deserved to be graced with labels unlike any other: labels designed by Artists. In the excitement of the moment we drew up a list of Artists, and the following day what had seemed to be a fanciful idea began to take shape\u201d.<\/p>\n<h2>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vietti.com\/\">History<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>The history of the Vietti winery traces its roots back to the 19th Century. Only at the beginning of the 20th century, however, did the Vietti name become a winery offering its own wines in bottle.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Patriarch Mario Vietti, starting from 1919\u00a0<\/strong>made the first Vietti wines, selling most of the production in Italy.\u00a0<strong>His most significant achievement<\/strong>\u00a0was to transform the family farm, engaged in many fields, into a grape-growing and wine-producing business.<\/p>\n<p>Then, in 1952, Alfredo Currado (Luciana Vietti\u2019s husband) continued to produce high quality wines from their own vineyards and purchased grapes.\u00a0<strong>The Vietti winery grew to one of the top-level producers in Piemonte and was one of the first wineries to export its products to the USA market.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Alfredo was one of the first to select and vinify grapes from single vineyards (such as Brunate, Rocche and Villero). This was a radical concept at the time, but today virtually every vintner making Barolo and Barbaresco wines offers \u201csingle vineyard\u201d or \u201ccru-designated\u201d wines.<\/p>\n<p>Alfredo is also called the\u00a0<strong>\u201cfather of Arneis\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0as in 1967 he invested a lot of time to rediscover and understand this nearly-lost variety. Today Arneis is the most famous white wine from Roero area, north of Barolo. Setting such a fine example with Arneis, even fellow vintners as far away those on the west coast of the United States now are cultivating and producing Arneis!<\/p>\n<div class=\"page-header page\"><\/div>\n<h2>Barolo Villero Riserva Vietti 2010<\/h2>\n<p>Vineyard: The Villero vineyard, with a south\/south-westerly exposure, is located in the municipality of Castiglione Falletto and covers an area of \u200b\u200bjust under one hectare.<\/p>\n<p>The average age of the vines is 42 years, with a planting density of 4,000 vines per hectare.<\/p>\n<p>For the 2010 harvest, the wine yield was approximately 35 hectoliters per hectare.<\/p>\n<p>The 2010 harvest took place on October 6th.<\/p>\n<p>Soil: Moderately clayey and compact, containing white and bluish marl.<\/p>\n<p>Vinification: Following alcoholic fermentation in steel tanks at temperatures between 28\u00b0C and 32\u00b0C, the skins remained in contact with the wine (maceration) for a total of 12 days.
