PIO CESARE<\/a> – HISTORY<\/h2>\n

The Pio Cesare winery boasts, with its glorious and century-old history, important distinctions that make it one of the most celebrated and important producers in the Langhe.<\/p>\n

It was founded in Alba in 1881 by entrepreneur Cesare Pio, a great wine enthusiast and pioneer of values such as quality and stylistic originality<\/strong>. By the early 1900s, his brand was already known throughout Europe, becoming a reference for Piedmontese wine worldwide. A fame and prestige on the national and international market that continued first under the guidance of Rosy Pio and her husband Giuseppe Boffa and, today, under their son Pio Boffa. Currently exporting to over 50 countries, it is one of the most celebrated and important Italian wineries, known both to the general public and to enthusiasts.<\/p>\n

The vineyard estate extends over 70 hectares across the hills of Barolo and Barbaresco and boasts particularly prestigious plots, such as the Bricco di Treiso vineyard and Ornato in Serralunga d’Alba, along with many important crus<\/strong>. Each of these vineyards is included in the list of Additional Geographic Mentions in the Barolo and Barbaresco regulations.<\/p>\n

PIO CESARE<\/a> The winery and production<\/h2>\n

The winery, located in the historic center of Alba, is arranged over 4 floors below the level of the Tanaro river and, in addition to representing the ideal environment for production, aging and wine storage, is also an important piece of history. It was in fact excavated and built in the 18th century and is bordered by the ancient Roman walls of Alba Pompeia. In this highly evocative historic setting, wines are produced according to the classic and traditional practice of blending the characteristics of the vineyards<\/strong>, rather than vinifying separately by cru. This is how it was done in the 19th century and this has remained the family’s production method.<\/p>\n

Faithfulness to a classic style, consistent quality<\/strong> and great care in the vineyard and cellar characterize the entire production. Pio Cesare wines are an important historical witness and an example of quality and prestige that still sets the standard today. They represent the history and tradition of the Langhe, but also their future and their success in Italy and worldwide.<\/p>\n

BARBARESCO<\/h2>\n

PIO CESARE Barbaresco 2016. Pio Cesare’s Barbaresco is a structured wine focused on elegance and classicism, vinified in steel and matured for 30 months in large casks and barriques. It expresses delicate and graceful aromas of violets, berries and sweet spices and has a vibrant, rich, fresh and graceful palate, with fine balsamic persistence.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Vineyards<\/h3>\n

From our Family’s estate vineyards in Treiso \u2013 Cascina Il Bricco, San Stefanetto and Bongiovanni and in San Rocco Seno d’Elvio \u2013 Rocche di Massalupo.<\/p>\n

Vinification<\/h3>\n

In stainless steel. Approximately 25\u201330 days of maceration on the skins.<\/p>\n

Aging<\/h3>\n

In casks for approximately 30 months and a small portion in barriques.<\/p>\n

Notes<\/h3>\n

A Barbaresco of very classic style: elegance and finesse, ripe and spiced fruit, blend with tannins that are present but not overpowering. Good structure and concentration. Long-lived.
\nBarbaresco is a great wine in its own right and should not be diminished with the label of “base” or “generic” simply because no vineyard or sub-zone is indicated on the label.<\/p>\n
