PIO CESARE<\/h2>\n

Pio Cesare has been producing wines for 135 years\u00a0and through five generations in its ancient cellars in the center of the town of Alba.<\/p>\n

The Pio Cesare winery was founded in 1881, by Cesare Pio.\u00a0He was a very successful entrepreneur and was inspired to produce a small and select quantity of wines from the hills of Barolo and Barbaresco for himself, his family, friends, and customers. Cesare Pio was dedicated to the terroir of the Piedmont region and to producing wines of the highest quality. His entrepreneurial spirit encouraged him to travel throughout Europe in the early 20th century to publicize and promote Pio Cesare\u2019s wines. His passport, which is proudly displayed at the winery in Alba, bears the number 55.<\/p>\n

Giuseppe Pio, his son, the second generation, found himself with a thriving winery at the turn of the century. He carried on his father\u2019s passion and invested in expansion of the cellars and the trade, making Pio Cesare a benchmark brand for the wines of the region.<\/p>\n

In 1940..<\/h4>\n

In 1940, Giuseppe Pio\u2019s only child, Rosy, married Giuseppe Boffa,\u00a0a young and well-known engineer from Alba, who managed a large company in Milan at the time.<\/p>\n

Then Italy began to struggle during the Second World War,Giuseppe Boffa decided to leave his job in Milan to dedicate himself to the Pio Cesare winery.<\/p>\n

Rosy and Giuseppe Boffa named their youngest son Pio, in honor of his great-grandfather\u2019s surname.\u00a0Pio Boffa, the fourth generation, leads and directs the company today.In the early 1990\u2019s Pio Boffa asked his cousin Augusto to join him in the company.<\/p>\n

His sister\u2019s son, Cesare Benvenuto, has been active since 2000 as the fifth generation and recently Pio Boffa\u2019s daughter, Federica Rosy, joined Pio Cesare, representing the future of the Family.<\/p>\n

Today, the family members travel extensively to more than 50 countries around the world,\u00a0echoing what Cesare Pio himself did at the beginning of our history\u2014promoting the name and reputation of the Pio Cesare winery to restaurants, hotels, wine shops and wine lovers worldwide.<\/p>\n

BARBARESCO<\/h2>\n

Vineyards<\/h3>\n

From our family vineyards in Treiso (Il Bricco, San Stefanetto and Bongiovanni) and in San Rocco Seno d\u2019Elvio (Rocche di Massalupo). This wine has been always and traditionally produced by our Family from grapes coming from different locations within the Barbaresco appellation. This is the classic \u201cformula\u201d used by the ancient Barbaresco families to produce a wine which embraces and combines each of the unique characteristics of the different vineyards and terroirs of the Barbaresco area.<\/p>\n

Vinification<\/h3>\n

In stainless steel tanks. Skin contact for 25-30 days<\/p>\n

Ageing<\/h3>\n

In oak \u201cbotti\u201d for about 30 months; a small amount in French barriques.<\/p>\n

Notes<\/h3>\n

A very classical style Barbaresco: elegance and velvety, with ripe and spicy fruit. Strong tannins, but elegant. Good structure and concentration. Very long life.
\nBarbaresco is a great wine\u2014it should not be described as a \u201cbasic\u201d or \u201cregular\u201d Barbaresco, simply because it does not have any additional indication on the label.<\/p>\n
