TERLANO <\/a><\/h2>\n

-History-<\/h3>\n

The foundation of the Cantina Terlano in 1893 took place at a time when agriculture was the mainstay of the regional economy.<\/p>\n

Apart from a few innovative winegrowers, however, who looked to the Rheingau region for new ideas and brought grape varieties from Germany and France to South Tyrol; agriculture under the domination of a few big landowners was backward.<\/p>\n

The landlords were also the dominant factor in winemaking in the region.<\/p>\n

In order to liberate themselves from this domination, 24 Terlano winegrowers decided to join forces and founded the Cantina Terlano.<\/p>\n

Whereas red wines were more common in South Tyrol at the end of the 19th century, with a red to white ratio of 80:20, Terlano was already well known as a white wine area in 1893.<\/p>\n

Over the years this focus on white wines has been consolidated, and today the ratio of whites to reds at the Cantina Terlano is 70 percent white to 30 percent red.<\/p>\n

QUARZ SAUVIGNON<\/a> BLANC<\/h2>\n

\u201cDelicate as the fine inclusions of quartz in Terlano\u2019s volcanic porphyry rock – that is our Sauvignon Selection, which does full justice to its name. Quarz offers a combination of fine texture, depth and salty aftertaste that has given this noble white an international reputation.\u201d

The year began with a very dry and mild winter. A cool spring slightly delayed vine budding, but the normal growth cycle was restored by a very warm and sunny May. The first vines flowered on the earliest sites in the middle of the month, and the fine weather then led to a rapid flowering process. On the higher sites, flowering was finished by the beginning of June.<\/p>\n

Due to an exceptionally hot and dry summer, we had minion problems with fungal attack. Additionally, the lack of rainfall, in some cases, pushed the vines to their limits.<\/p>\n

At the end of July and beginning of August rainfall and thunderstorms put an end to this issue., thus averting drought stress and related quality concerns. Subsequently, the prospect of an early harvest was also on the horizon. Harvesting began on August 24 on the earliest sites. The result was fully ripe and extremely healthy grapes with slightly reduced levels of acidity.<\/p>\n

From the 2022 vintage we can expect balanced and harmonious fresh white wines and full-bodied, richly colored red wines. Overall, with all variables considered, the vintage is slated to be<\/p>\n

excellent for both white and red wines respectively.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Color: brilliant straw yellow
\nSmell: This Sauvignon is enticingly exotic in the glass, with multilayered fruit of mango, papaya, lime and red grapefruit, and herbal aromas reminiscent of lemon grass, lemon balm, mint andgreen tea. It also reveals mineral notes of flint combined with a hint of gooseberry.
