THE WINERY –\u00a0PRUNOTTO<\/a><\/h2>\n

Alfredo Prunotto founded his business in 1922 and was one of Piemonte’s most dynamic exporters until his retirement in 1956. The company passed then to Prunotto’s friend Beppe Colla, now a revered winemaker and one of the founding fathers of modern Piemonte. His defining moment was the decision in 1961 to bottle single vineyard (or Cru) wines from the finest sites; a practice that is now the norm in the region. Those wines were made from bought-in grapes, but in the 1990s the current owners (the Antinori’s of Tuscany), extended the Prunotto holdings including plots in the outstanding Bric Turot and Bussia vineyards.<\/p>\n

Today, the estate totals 50 hectares of vineyards in the best wine-producing areas of the Piemonte and has a wine-producing facility equipped with the most modern technology available, making Prunotto\u00a0one of the most important winemaking estates in the Piedmont region.<\/p>\n

BARBARESCO<\/a> BRIC TUROT<\/h2>\n

This balanced and pleasant Barbaresco is the result of a combination of factors: the vineyard\u2019s diversified exposure due to the shape of the \u201cbricco\u201d (the summit of a hill in local dialect), a specific clonal selection and aging in barrels of different capacities.<\/p>\n

-The history-<\/h3>\n

Bric Turot is one of Prunotto’s historic vineyards. Its name means ‘summit of a small hill’ and local producers have always called this small parcel “La Turota” or “La Torretta” (small tower) in local dialect due to its prominent geographic position.<\/p>\n

The 2018 growing season was defined by a longer than usual winter with abundant rainfall that replenished groundwater resources that were depleted due to 2017\u2019s climatic trends. Winter conditions persisted up until the beginning of March with lower-than-average temperatures resulting in a slow start to the vines\u2019 vegetative cycle.\u00a0 Regular rain showers and overall cool temperatures dominated both spring and the first half of summer. Halfway through July temperatures rose significantly and a long stretch of beautiful, stable weather favored a gradual, regular ripening phase. There were notable differences in ripening times in the various vineyards. The grape harvest for Bric Turot began on September 28th<\/sup> and was completed on October 7th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Immediately upon arrival in the cellar, grapes were destemmed and crushed. Maceration on the skins took place over a period of approximately 10 days at a temperature that did not exceed 30 \u00b0C (86 \u00b0F). Malolactic fermentation was completed before winter. The wine was aged in oak barrels of varying capacities for at least 12 months. -Tasting notes-<\/h3>\n

Bric Turot 2018 is an intense garnet red color with dark ruby highlights. The nose is complex with notes of licorice that balance perfectly with hints of small wild berries, cinnamon, cloves and pleasant violet sensations.
