Terroir<\/h3>\n

Ornellaia is now a classic and was one of the first of the Super Tuscans – modern wines made in Tuscany using French grape varieties. It is the equal of many a great Bordeaux.<\/p>\n

From its position on the hillside close to Bolgheri, The Ornellaia estate lies hidden in the foothills around Bolgheri that face the Mediterranean coast.<\/p>\n

The cool maritime breeze caresses this exceptional Estate and its surrounding olive groves throughout the summer months. During the winter the hills give protection from the cold northern winds.<\/p>\n

Ornellaia believes that wines should be the truest expression of the terroir from which they come.<\/p>\n

The diverse nature of the Estate\u2019s soils \u2013 marine, alluvial and volcanic \u2013 coupled with this maritime climate create an environment in which red and white varietals can express themselves to the full.<\/p>\n

This myriad of individual parcels of vines fit into this unspoilt landscape like a mosaic, creating a unique expression of beauty and complexity in an exceptional place.<\/p>\n

While experience, skill and determination have all played their part in enhancing the quality and reputation of Ornellaia, it is the Estate itself that is continual source of inspiration, suggesting unique and exciting ways to capture its natural generosity.<\/p>\n

The desire to nurture the Estate\u2019s exceptional qualities has shaped Ornellaia\u2019s philosophy since the beginning. Ornellaia is a cuv\u00e9e of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc & Petit Verdot and the faithful expression of unique terroir developed in harmony with nature.<\/p>\n

ORNELLAIA 2017 – SOLARE<\/a><\/h2>\n

For the 12th edition of Ornellaia Vendemmia d\u2019Artista\u00a0Tom\u00e1s Saraceno<\/strong>\u00a0invites us to reflect on the impact of our actions on the planet as he interprets the character \u201cSolare\u201d (radiant) of Ornellaia 2017. The artist has created a site-specific masterpiece for the Estate, customized a limited series of 111 large format bottles, and designed a special label that, a single example of which, will be found in each Ornellaia case containing 6 bottles of 750 ml.<\/p>\n

Artist\u00a0Tom\u00e1s Saraceno<\/h1>\n

Tom\u00e1s Saraceno is a visionary artist who has shaken the world of contemporary art with his work. Born in 1973 in Argentina, his practice is elevated by the concepts linking art, life science and the social sciences. Enmeshed at the junction of these worlds, his floating sculptures, community projects and interactive installations propose and explore, in an age of ecological turmoil, new sustainable ways of inhabiting and sensing the environment.<\/p>\n

Special Labels<\/h1>\n

As with every edition, the artist Tom\u00e1s Saraceno has created a collection of large formats: 100 Double Magnums (3L), 10 Imperials (6L), and a unique Salmanazar (9L). Tom\u00e1s Saraceno has also designed the special label for the 0.750 format: a single bottle with artist\u2019s label in each case of Ornellaia 2017. This is the central theme of this project where the interaction between man and the artwork generates an immediate connection with the entangled web of relations that extend across micro and macro scales, all the way to the sun.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

WINEMAKER\u2019S TASTING NOTES<\/h3>\n

\n

\u201cOrnellaia 2017 masterfully interprets what was a particularly warm and sunny year. The intense and dark colour heralds a wine of beautiful concentration; the nose, rich and complex, releases scents of ripe red fruits, accompanied by notes of sweet tobacco and vanilla. The taste reveals an Ornellaia of great balance, a combination of firmness and pleasant freshness.\u201d<\/p>\n
