The wine made here was never meant to exist. The potential of the unused slope was finally seen in the 1980\u2019s when, against all odds, advice and local tradition, the first vines were planted. Over the next three decades the vineyard has revealed many secrets, but still more remain to be uncovered.<\/p>\n<h3>-The family-<\/h3>\n<p>For 700 years the Frescobaldi family has combined tradition, experience and innovation with creativity and the pursuit of excellence. The family has always looked to develop and celebrate the diversity of Tuscany\u2019s terroir, being proud owners of some of the greatest vineyards in this region.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&lt;&lt;Masseto is a unique and magical place, surrounded by forests and caressed by sea breezes on hot summer days. A rare combination of sumptuous opulence and polished elegance.<br \/>\nAs a tribute to its rugged force, its softness, and the debt it owes to the soil from which it rises, Masseto was named after the rock-hard clusters of blue clay called \u2018massi\u2019 that form on the vineyard\u2019s surface.<\/p>\n<h3>-Vintage 2011-<\/h3>\n<p>With the 2011 vintage, Masseto returns to a typically Mediterranean expression of a warm year in the Bolgheri terroir. Yet the overall impression is one of superb balance and measure, notwithstanding the wine\u2019s rich concentration and ripeness. A near-opaque colour greets the eye, followed by explosive aromas of gloriously-ripe wild red berry fruit cosseted by hints of toasty oak and dark chocolate. A full-bodied palate impresses with its deep concentration and opulence, displaying remarkably supple, glossy tannins.
