THE WINERY – MONTEVERTINE<\/a><\/h2>\n

The Montevertine estate has been populated since the 11th century. Remains of the original structure, first built for defensive purposes and them converted into a farmhouse, are still visible.<\/p>\n

In 1967, the estate was purchased by Sergio Manetti, an iron and steel industrialist, to make it into his holiday home. He renovated the main house, turned it into a habitable space and planted two hectares of land with vineyards. He then set up a small winemaking cellar with the idea of producing some wine as a gift for friends and customers. The first vintage produced, the 1971, was quite good and Sergio Manetti sent a few bottles to the Vinitaly show in Verona through Siena\u2019s Chamber of Commerce.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The wine met with immediate success and Sergio was so excited about it that, a few years later, he retired from his former business to devote all his energies to winemaking, with Giulio Gambelli\u2019s assistance and the support of Bruno Bini, his faithful cellarman.<\/p>\n

New vineyards were planted, new wine cellars were built, and the winery grew into a very successful business. Sergio Manetti died in November 2000 and, since then, the winery has been run by his son Martino Manetti, who keeps pursuing the traditional values which are Montevertine\u2019s driving force.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

LE PERGOLE TORTE 50th ANNIVERSARY 2013<\/h2>\n

– 50th ANNIVERSARY 2013 –<\/h3>\n

Wine produced from Sangioveto grapes in the Le Pergole Torte di Montevertine vineyard in October 2013.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The aging took place for 30 months in a 16 HL Slavonian oak barrel.<\/p>\n

Only 1550 Bordeaux bottles and 400 magnum bottles were bottled, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Montevertine farm<\/strong> founded by Sergio Manetti in 1967.<\/p>\n

– Le Pergole Torte –<\/h3>\n

” The first vintage released was the 1977. It was the first 100% Sangiovese wine to be produced in the Radda in Chianti area. The grapes come from our oldest vineyards, planted between 1968 and 1999. It is aged for one year in Allier barriques and one year in Slavonian oak barrels. ”<\/p>\n
