The wine made here was never meant to exist. The potential of the unused slope was finally seen in the 1980\u2019s when, against all odds, advice and local tradition, the first vines were planted. Over the next three decades the vineyard has revealed many secrets, but still more remain to be uncovered.<\/p>\n<h3>-The family-<\/h3>\n<p>For 700 years the Frescobaldi family has combined tradition, experience and innovation with creativity and the pursuit of excellence. The family has always looked to develop and celebrate the diversity of Tuscany\u2019s terroir, being proud owners of some of the greatest vineyards in this region.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&lt;&lt;Masseto is a unique and magical place, surrounded by forests and caressed by sea breezes on hot summer days. A land which is blessed with the presence of blue clay, giving Masseto its unmistakable character.&gt;&gt;<\/p>\n<p>Mse. A rare combination of sumptuous opulence and polished elegance.<br \/>\nAs a tribute to its rugged force, its softness, and the debt it owes to the soil from which it rises, Masseto was named after the rock-hard clusters of blue clay called \u2018massi\u2019 that form on the vineyard\u2019s surface.<\/p>\n<h3>-Vintage 2017-<\/h3>\n<p>Masseto 2017 is certainly a child of its vintage, that has managed to encapsulate all the ripeness and concentration of a particularly sunny and dry vintage.<br \/>\nThe colour is almost black, the nose reveals a rich and ripe expression of concentrated black fruit, with hints of spices and liquorice. On the palate the wine manages to combine great intensity and ripeness of fruit with a remarkable sense of balance and freshness. The tannins are densely knit, the texture velvety, the finish shows lingering fruitiness and a vibrant acidity giving a final touch of freshness.
