History<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n

Since time immemorial Nebbiolo has been the most highly-prized vine and the wine-growing emblem of Alba and the Langa, and when it is matched with a great wine-making terroir it is capable of expressing itself at sublime levels in wines of remarkable personality, intense bouquet, great smooth tannins, and outstanding possibilities of evolution and resistance over time.<\/p>\n

The members of the Giuseppe Mascarello family have been growing wines for more than a century and a half, first as farmers running the Manescotto estate in the village of La Morra for the marchesa Giulia Colbert Faletti di Barolo, and then on their own property since the late 1800s.<\/p>\n

\n

Philosophy<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n

The winery\u2019s outstanding results have been achieved by our family\u2019s application over decades of a series of rules and self-limits, including:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • very short winter pruning \u2013 from six to nine buds, depending on the vigour of each single vine;<\/li>\n
  • removal in spring of any less than perfect bunches;<\/li>\n
  • summer thinning of the grapes that could compromise each plant\u2019s ability to ripen every bunch to perfection;<\/li>\n
  • production of no more than 6-6.5 tons of grapes per hectare;<\/li>\n
  • hand-picking, with grading and drastic cleaning performed in the vineyard, removing any imperfect grapes berry-by-berry.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    BARBERA D’ALBA SCUDETTO<\/h2>\n
    \n

    “Scudetto” is an intense and very typical\u00a0Barbera\u00a0d’Alba of the prestigious collection of Giuseppe Mascarello, which expresses in every sip the elegance of the territory of the Langhe. The nose looks like a walk in the woods: baskets of wild berries, elements of the undergrowth, earth and woody spices meet on a complex and balanced body, with good freshness and great expressiveness<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

    • Vineyard:<\/strong>\u00a0Scudetto\u00ae is downside the Chapel of Santo Stefano of Perno, in the commune of Monforte d\u2019Alba (CN)<\/li>\n
    • Wine-making process:<\/strong>\u00a0Traditional-style, floating cap fermentation of estate-grown grapes for 15\/20 days. The wine is then matured in medium-sized oak barrels for few months or sometimes stabilized in inert tank.<\/li>\n
    • Tasting notes:<\/strong>
      \nColour:<\/strong>\u00a0deep ruby-red, tending to purplish;
      \nNose:<\/strong>\u00a0fruity aroma of ripe grapes, intense, varietal;
