WINERY LE MACCHIOLE<\/h2>\n

Dating back to the beginning of the 1980s, Le Macchiole is one of the historic wineries in Bolgheri, and over the years, it has become a reference point for quality Tuscan wine.<\/p>\n

Founders Eugenio Campolmi and Cinzia Merli were among the region\u2019s pioneers, and they contributed in a significant way to Bolgheri\u2019s growing fame thanks to their work in creating wines full of character and personality that have become a symbol of the region. Today, Cinzia runs the winery with the essential support of her sons Elia and Mattia, who have become an important presence at the winery; together with a close team of enthusiastic colleagues.<\/p>\n

They have become one big family that never ceases to innovate and surprise themselves and one another. Ever changing in order to remain faithful to its original vision; Le Macchiole is in continuous evolution thanks to a careful, contemporary reading of wine and terroir. The conviction to pursue organic farming and an increasingly sustainable approach; a style that has become more and more defined, favoring refinement and elegance; and authenticity and personality have all become the defining characteristics of an historic winery that is nonetheless always moving forward, and always aware of the times.<\/p>\n

This deep, spicy red was first produced in 1994, and the inspiration for its creation was the desire to produce a 100% Syrah, one of Le Macchiole\u2019s favorite grapes. Rare and original and produced in very small quantities, Scrio quickly became a benchmark in Bolgheri.<\/strong><\/em> The name of the wine, inspired by a Tuscan expression that means \u201cpure, candid, whole,\u201d perfectly describes its defining characteristics.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n

2016<\/h3>\n

2016 was definitely one of the smoothest years of the past decade. No extreme weather conditions at all and rain seemed to fall when the vines most needed it: abundant in March, normal in May and June, heavy in late July and warm and sunny weather from August to mid-September. Optimum temperatures as well: a mild late winter season which was cause for concern; but then the basically cool spring slowed down the plants growth cycle that benefited from the warm but not scorching summer, with large night-day temperature swings. <\/span><\/p>\n

Winemaking:<\/strong>\u00a0fermentation and maceration for 20 days in steel tanks<\/p>\n

Aging:<\/strong>\u00a013 months in new tonneaux and conical trunk cask<\/p>\n
