MARCHESI ANTINORI<\/h2>\n

A story passed down through 26 generations<\/h3>\n

The Antinori family has been committed to the art of winemaking for over six centuries since 1385 when Giovanni di Piero Antinori became a member, of the \u201cArte Fiorentina dei Vinattieri\u201d, the Florentine Winemakers\u2019 Guild. All throughout its history, twenty-six generations long, the Antinori family has managed the business directly making innovative and sometimes bold decisions while upholding the utmost respect for traditions and the environment.<\/p>\n

Today, Albiera Antinori is the president of Marchesi Antinori with the continuous close support of her two sisters, Allegra and Alessia, all actively involved in first person in the business. Their father, Marchese Piero Antinori, is the current Honorary President of the company. Tradition, passion, and intuition are the three driving forces that led Marchesi Antinori to establish itself as one of the most important winemakers of elite Italian wine.<\/p>\n

Ancient family roots<\/h3>\n

Each vintage, each plot of land, each new idea to be advanced is a new beginning, a new pursuit for achieving higher quality standards. As Marchese Piero loves to say: \u201cAncient family roots play an important part in our philosophy but they have never hindered our innovative spirit.\u201d<\/p>\n

TIGNANELLO<\/h2>\n

Tignanello was the first Sangiovese to be aged in barriques, the first contemporary red wine blended with untraditional varieties (specifically Cabernet) and one of the first red wines in the Chianti Classico region that didn\u2019t use white grapes. This wine is a milestone. It\u2019s produced with a selection of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.<\/p>\n

The Design<\/h3>\n

The label was designed by Silvio Coppola in 1974 for the release of Tignanello 1971. IDEA.. The idea to commission this artist was discussed at an event at Castello della Sala in 1973. Silvio Coppola was an important Italian graphic and interior designer who was famous for his minimalist lighting fixtures and austere furniture but also for book cover designs for Italian publishing company Feltrinelli. Silvio Coppola was the perfect match for the job.<\/p>\n

The Signature<\/h3>\n

Marchese Piero Antinori, the current Honorary President, decided to have his father, Niccol\u00f2 Antinori, sign the label as a sign of recognition for his father\u2019s confidence in him.<\/p>\n

Tenuta Tignanello<\/h3>\n

The Tenuta Tignanello estate is in the heart of Chianti Classico, in the gently rolling hillsides between the Greve and Pesa river valleys. It extends over an area of 319 hectares (788 acres), of which about 130 (321 acres) are dedicated to vines. Two of the estate\u2019s prized vineyards are on the same hillside, Tignanello and Solaia, on soils that originated from marine marlstone from the Pliocene period rich in limestone and schist.<\/p>\n

The vines enjoy hot temperatures during the day and cooler evenings throughout the growing season. The estate\u2019s two signature wines, Solaia and Tignanello, are produced from these vineyards and have been defined by the international press as \u201camong the most influential wines in the history of Italian viticulture\u201d. According to Marchesi Antinori, Solaia and Tignanello are an ongoing challenge and a never-ending passion. The Tignanello estate has vineyards of indigenous Sangiovese grapes as well as some other untraditional varieties such as Cabernet Franc.<\/p>\n
