The estate has origins that date back to the 17th century and it still keeps its historical heritage in a building called \u201cPalazzo\u201d (Palace) that was built by Fabivs de’ Vecchis, Bishop of Montalcino and Abbot of Sant\u2019Antimo Abbey.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

After the Bishop\u2019s death, the Palace and the surrounding estate were auctioned according to the Italian law regarding ecclesiastic properties and on September 16, 1868, they were purchased by the countess Eva Bernini Cerretani. On December 31, 1877, the countess Cerretani sold the entire estate to the Ciacci family from Castelnuovo dell\u2019Abate. After the marriage between the count Alberto Piccolomini d\u2019Aragona, a direct discendent of Enea Silvio Piccolomini (Pope Pius II) and Elda Ciacci, the Bishop\u2019s Palace became the Ciacci Piccolomini d\u2019Aragona Palace.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

In 1985 the countess Elda Ciacci bequeathed the entire property to Giuseppe Bianchini, farmer of the estate since a lot of years, applying a completely brand new and forefront philosophy production for that period, increasing quantity, quality of wines and opening the export worldwide. Giuseppe, unfortunately passed away in February 2004, left the business to\u00a0his son and daughter, Paolo and Lucia.<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0Ciacci Piccolomini d\u2019Aragona estate is located on the\u00a0south east\u00a0slope of the\u00a0municipality of\u00a0Montalcino, close to the medieval village of Castelnuovo dell\u2019Abate and to the famous Romanesque Abbey of Sant\u2019Antimo, which dates back to the\u00a011th century.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The entire estate, extending over 220 hectares of which 55.5 are in vines and 40 in\u00a0olive groves, has all the typical characteristics of the Tuscan countryside adorned with rolling hills, pastures and woods with\u00a0unforgettable\u00a0colours.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Set between Arna hill and the Orcia River to the\u00a0south-east, it offers a unique panorama with the beautiful contour of Mount Amiata in the background. Vineyard
\n<\/strong>8 Ha with soil of medium grain with good levels of marl dating to the Eocene period. The altitude of the vineyards varies from 240 to 360 meters above sea level.<\/p>\n

Grape varietal
\n<\/strong>100% Sangiovese<\/p>\n

Fermentation and refinement
\n<\/strong>In stainless steel and glass concrete vats, temperature-controlled via cooling plates and jackets.<\/p>\n

Ageing
\n<\/strong>More than 24 months in 20-75 hl Slavonian oak barrels, followed by over 8 months of bottle refinement.<\/p>\n

Colour
\n<\/strong>Ruby red verging on garnet.<\/p>\n

Organoleptic characteristics
\n<\/strong>The bouquet is intense, fruit-forward, spicy and floral with hints of red berry fruits enriched by delicate spicy notes. Warm, soft and very well balanced on the palate; well structured with soft tannins and long aftertaste.<\/p>\n

Service
\n<\/strong>Open an hour before pouring and serve at 18\u00b0C (64,4\u00b0 F) in large crystal glasses. Bottles should be\u00a0kept in a horizontal position, far from light sources and protected from both extremes and changes in temperature.<\/p>\n

Food pairings
\n<\/strong>Great companion to roasted and stewed game meat. Excellent with mature cheeses and traditional hand-made pasta featuring red meat and game ragout.<\/p>\n
