The Cordero di Montezemolo family has historical and deep roots in the History of Piedmont. Traditionally, however, it had little to do with the production of wine.<\/em><\/p>\n

The family\u2019s origin is Spanish and they settled in Piedmont only during\u00a0the mid 1400s<\/b>. The family members were distinguished in the\u00a0printing\/typesetting field<\/b>\u00a0and in significant\u00a0military and diplomatic roles<\/b>\u00a0of the\u00a0Royal House of Savoy<\/strong>\u00a0to then become one of the most important aristocratic families\u00a0(Marchesi)<\/strong>\u00a0of Piedmont.<\/p>\n

One of the several\u00a0Falletti<\/strong>\u00a0family branches, proprietors of\u00a0Monfalletto Estate<\/strong>\u00a0and the most noteworthy noble family of the Alba area, intertwines with the Cordero di Montezemolo family when Maria Lydia, daughter of the Marchese Luigia Falletti marries Paolo Cordero di Montezemolo in 1918. The couple unfortunately dies prematurely but not before their only son,\u00a0Paolo<\/strong>\u00a0is born.<\/p>\n

When she died in 1941, he inherited her entire property, including the Monfalletto Estate in La Morra. Historical texts testify to the florid and important\u00a0agricultural activity of the farm<\/strong>\u00a0set on a unique and fortunate hill. The wine production on this hill is documented from over\u00a0200 years ago<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

”\u00a0 \u00a0The great wine, which many call a \u201cwork of art\u201d is the work of nature, the work of the sun, the climate, the soil composition and so on; to use a cavalier and paradoxical term, it is an agrarian opera.\u00a0 \u00a0“<\/em><\/p>\n

BAROLO MONFALLETTO<\/h2>\n

Production Zone:<\/strong>\u00a0Historic wine of the winery coming from the carefully selected blend of the Monfalletto Estate vineyards in the town of La Morra. Age of vines are between 15 to 50 years, all with South\/East and South\/West exposures giving the perfect grapes and harmonious ripeness. The clayey and calcareous soils add elegance and complexity. Magnesium oxide and manganese in the soil facilitate the maturation of soft and dense tannins. Altitude between 250 and 300 meters above sea level.<\/p>\n

Harvest Period:<\/strong>\u00a0From the end of September to the end of a October<\/p>\n

Vinification:<\/strong>\u00a0Each vineyard with uniform characteristics (exposure, age, soil composition, plant gender, clones, etc.) is harvested and vinified separately. 4 \u2013 5 day maceration and another 10-12 to complete fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Drawn off into different sizes and types of wood barrels where malolactic fermentation takes place.<\/p>\n

Maturation:<\/strong>\u00a0All the various lots undergo a period of aging in different types of French and Slovenian wood for a period between 18 to 24 months. Final assemblage of the chosen lots, bottled and released on the market after one year.<\/p>\n
