MARCHESI FRESCOBALDI<\/a><\/h2>\n

-The Tenuta CastelGiocondo-<\/h3>\n

Dominated by the ancient castle and a small medieval village.
\nTo the south-west of Montalcino, Tenuta CastelGiocondo is situated at an altitude of around 300 metres, an ideal terroir for the production of Sangiovese.<\/p>\n

\n

The village of Castelgiocondo overlooks the historic estate of the Frescobaldis in Montalcino: an ancient stronghold built in 1100 to defend the road leading from the sea to Siena. The property is one of the first 4 to begin producing Brunello di Montalcino in 1800, and its historic importance is represented on the label of Castelgiocondo by the figure of a condottiere from a celebrated fresco of the Sienese artist Simone Martini.<\/p>\n

The artist\u2019s depiction shows Guidoriccio da Fogliano, commander of the troops of Siena who in 1323 led the attack on the Montemassi castle; an historic moment that coincided with the initiation of the Frescobaldi family\u2019s centuries-old adventure in the world of wine.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

CASTELGIOCONDO BRUNELLO<\/a><\/h2>\n

CastelGiocondo is produced from an uncompromising selection of the finest Sangiovese grapes, in a vineyard whose ideal elevation, well-drained soils, and southwest-facing exposure yield all of the qualities that converge to produce the finest expression of this noble grape variety. It is an elegant, well-balanced wine of magnificent structure.<\/p>\n

The 2013 growing season saw regular rainfall throughout spring and early summer, which helped the grapevines develop perfectly.\u00a0The second half of the summer was quite warm, but without the type of heat spikes that could have compromised the grape\u2019s ripening.\u00a0Furthermore, the ripening of the berries benefited from alternating warm days and cool nights, producing ripe grapes rich in phenolic substances \u2013 e.g. anthocyanins and tannins \u2013 whilst preserving their delicate aromas.<\/p>\n
