Biondi Santi Brunello di Montalcino Annata Il Greppo 1988
BIONDI SANTI
Biondi Santi winery, firmly guided by Franco Biondi Santi, has now become the symbol of the Brunello di Montalcino, and is the undisputed reference point for all lovers of true Sangiovese. A centuries-old history, full of passion, expertise and love for the land, which begins with Clemente Santi, grandson of Giorgio Santi.
Clemente Santi possessed vast estates in Montalcino and Pienza, and devoted most of its activities to agriculture, especially to Greppo farm owned by the parent channel. His knowledge of chemistry and science helped him a lot to bring his winemaking techniques to enviable levels during the last years of his life. He received important awards in the field of wine, in particular for its Brunello, awarded at the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1867: an extraordinary recognition because at that time the French were considered the only manufacturer in the world of fine wines.
It was thanks to his daughter, Caterina, who joined the two surnames Biondi Santi, thanks to his marriage with Jacopo Biondi, Florentine physician. Since then the family has helped to greatly improve the efficiency of their land, allowing the winery to better represent the excellence of Brunello di Montalcino.
